About The National Coalition of Black Civic Participation
The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) is a non-partisan civic engagement organization based in Washington, DC, dedicated to expanding democratic participation across Black and underserved communities nationwide. Founded in 1976, NCBCP delivers comprehensive educational programs and leadership training designed to remove barriers to voting and civic involvement at all levels—local, state, national, and global. The organization operates signature initiatives including Black Youth Vote!, the Black Women's Roundtable, and the NCBCP Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. Institute for Leadership Development, Civic Engagement, Economic Empowerment and Social Justice, anchored at Clark Atlanta University. Through year-round programming, NCBCP mobilizes intergenerational leaders and coordinates with 80 national organizations and 12 state-based affiliates to strengthen institutional capacity and community empowerment. The Coalition specializes in experiential learning, organizing, women and girls empowerment, and research-driven advocacy that makes civic participation a cultural responsibility. With nearly 50 years of civil rights expertise, NCBCP serves as a catalyst for social and economic justice, working across sectors including civil rights, labor, business, faith, education, LGBTQIA communities, and public policy. The organization's comprehensive approach combines technology integration with grassroots mobilization to ensure all Americans can participate fully in democratic processes.
