About OU Black Law Students Association
The OU Black Law Students Association, based at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in Norman, OK, is a dynamic student organization dedicated to supporting Black law students throughout their academic and professional journeys. As the local chapter of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), this organization provides comprehensive guidance in academic excellence, professional development, and social integration within the law school community.
OU BLSA conducts extensive programming across multiple key areas including academic excellence initiatives, professional development opportunities, alumni relations, pro-bono and community service projects, and pre-law initiatives designed to cultivate the next generation of legal professionals. The organization facilitates a welcoming environment that fosters both academic achievement and meaningful fellowship among members. With consistent student engagement and a robust alumni presence, OU BLSA stands as one of the most active and engaged student organizations on the OU Law campus.
The organization has earned significant recognition at both regional and national levels, including multiple National Small Chapter of the Year awards and consistent Regional Small Chapter honors. OU BLSA members have demonstrated excellence in competitive legal forums, including the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition and the Nelson Mandela International Negotiations Competition.
Named in honor of Dr. Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher, the first African American student admitted to OU Law, the organization carries forward a legacy of civil rights achievement and social justice advocacy. OU BLSA is committed to advancing racial equity, empowering future Black lawyers, and using legal education as a tool for confronting injustice and advancing progress within Oklahoma and beyond.
