National Black Nurses Association

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), based in Silver Spring, MD, is a premier professional organization dedicated to advancing nursing services and healthcare excellence for African American communities. As a non-profit incorporated in 1972, NBNA represents over 308,000 African American registered nurses, licensed vocational and practical nurses, nursing students, and retired nurses across the USA, Eastern Caribbean, and Africa through 114 chartered chapters in 33 states. The organization provides comprehensive continuing education programs for nurses and allied health professionals throughout the year, ensuring members maintain the highest standards of professional development and clinical competency. NBNA conducts extensive community-based health programs, offering voluntary health education and screenings in collaboration with faith-based organizations, hospitals, civic groups, and schools of nursing. The association publishes its quarterly Newsletter and bi-annual Journal of NBNA, keeping members informed of the latest developments in nursing practice and health policy. NBNA's Annual National Institute and Conference, held each summer in Silver Spring, MD, features prominent speakers and thought leaders in nursing and healthcare. Through its Collaborative Community Health Model, NBNA ensures the delivery of culturally competent healthcare services tailored to the needs of diverse populations. The organization also administers annual scholarships for nursing students and maintains active committees focused on critical health issues including Black maternal health, men's health awareness, oral health, and violence reduction initiatives.
