About LHBlacks

LHBlacks is a dynamic student organization based at the University of Texas Austin, specifically within the prestigious Butler School of Music. As the first and only Black organization dedicated to serving students in the Butler School of Music, LHBlacks provides a unique platform for fostering community, celebrating achievement, and creating meaningful connections among Black and African American musicians at UT Austin.

The organization operates with a clear mission to uplift and highlight members of the Black music community while expanding visibility and recruitment within the Longhorn Band and Showband of the Southwest. LHBlacks serves as an inclusive space where students can connect with peers who share similar experiences and cultural backgrounds within the music program. The organization is committed to creating an environment where Black students in the Butler School of Music feel supported, celebrated, and empowered to pursue their musical passions.

Established in June 2020, LHBlacks has quickly become an essential resource for Black musicians at the University of Texas Austin. The organization actively engages in community building through various events, updates, and initiatives designed to strengthen bonds among members and promote visibility within the broader music community. With a focus on inclusivity and representation, LHBlacks works to ensure that Black and African American voices are heard and valued within the Butler School of Music and the larger Longhorn Band community.
