About Black Women of Central Virginia

Black Women of Central Virginia is a community-based organization dedicated to advancing leadership development and gender equity for Black women and girls throughout the Charlottesville, VA region. Operating across Charlottesville, Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison, and Orange counties, the organization focuses on three critical areas: health, education, and economic empowerment. Through targeted mentorship programs, educational initiatives, and community partnerships, Black Women of Central Virginia works to create sustainable pathways to self-sufficiency for women and girls of African descent. The organization actively hosts health and wellness fairs, youth civic engagement forums, and community support initiatives. Recent efforts have included distributing care packages celebrating Black girl joy, providing emergency supplies during crises, and facilitating member induction and recognition programs. Black Women of Central Virginia partners with local organizations to maximize impact and reach within the community. The organization welcomes members aged 25 and older, with consideration for women aged 21-24, and serves mentees in grades 5-8 from Charlottesville City and Albemarle County Public Schools, with plans to expand to additional schools. Funding for events and programs comes through fundraising, grant proposals, and strategic organizational partnerships.
