About Black Women in Motion

Black Women in Motion is a Toronto, ON-based grassroots organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support and services to Black women, girls, nonbinary, and gender-non-conforming survivors of gender-based violence. Operating from an anti-racist, intersectional feminist, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered framework, the organization delivers culturally-relevant resources, healing spaces, educational opportunities, and economic advancement programs specifically designed for survivors. The organization's programming includes learning spaces that expand skills and invest in the wellness of survivors, while working collaboratively within the community to address gender-based violence at both individual and systemic levels. Black Women in Motion has established itself as a critical partner within Toronto's gender justice and community development ecosystem, working alongside small businesses, academic institutions, and community-based service organizations to combat rape culture and structural violence. The organization's approach centers accountability, intersectionality, and collective care, maintaining transparency with community members, donors, and stakeholders while building intentional partnerships to respond to evolving community needs. Since its founding in 2013, Black Women in Motion has provided wraparound and healing services rooted in love, joy, compassion, and reconnection, drawing strength from the lived experiences and wisdom of Black survivors to fight systemic oppression and advance community well-being.
