About Black Law Students Association at Loyola University Chicago

The Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at Loyola University Chicago School of Law is a dynamic student organization dedicated to advancing African-American representation in the legal profession. Based in Chicago, IL, the Loyola chapter of the National Black Law Student Association works strategically to increase the number of African-American attorneys and judges throughout the United States while addressing critical issues affecting the African-American community.

BLSA at Loyola University Chicago provides comprehensive programming designed to support student success and professional development. The organization conducts targeted initiatives to increase recruitment, retention, and academic achievement of African-American law students at Loyola. Through strategic partnerships with legal professionals, BLSA creates valuable networking opportunities that connect students with experienced African-American practitioners in various legal fields.

The organization sponsors an impressive array of professional development events throughout the academic year. BLSA actively supports the prestigious Thurgood Marshall Moot Court and Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial competitions, both sanctioned by the National Black Law Students Association. These competitions provide students with practical litigation experience and national recognition.

BLSA also hosts the annual Race and the Law Symposium, a signature event that brings together distinguished legal scholars and practitioners to examine critical issues at the intersection of race and the American legal system. Additionally, the organization presents an annual brunch featuring the Donald L. Hollowell Distinguished Service Award, honoring African-American Loyola alumni who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and civil rights advancement. Under the faculty advisorship of Neil Williams, BLSA continues to foster academic excellence, professional growth, and meaningful community engagement across the Chicago law school community.
