Black Ex-Students of Texas

Black Ex-Students of Texas (BEST) is a dynamic alumni organization dedicated to connecting University of Texas at Austin graduates and supporters throughout Texas. Based in Dallas, TX, BEST coordinates comprehensive activities and programs designed to strengthen engagement among alumni and friends across multiple cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Galveston County.

The organization specializes in fostering meaningful connections within the African-American and Black alumni community while advancing key initiatives that support the University of Texas at Austin. BEST's professional services include organizing networking events, coordinating scholarship programs, facilitating alumni engagement activities, and providing pathways for community members to contribute to the university's mission.

Since its founding in 1998 and formal incorporation as a nonprofit in 2003, BEST has established itself as a vital bridge between the university and its Black alumni base. The organization manages multiple high-impact programs including the Legacy Gala, homecoming events, and the Red River Weekend celebration. BEST has awarded numerous scholarships to deserving students and continues to raise funds for endowed scholarships supporting Black students at UT.

The organization's commitment extends beyond social networking to include professional development opportunities, advocacy for student concerns, and strategic support for university programs. BEST maintains an active presence across Texas with chapters in major metropolitan areas, enabling alumni to maintain connections and contribute meaningfully to the university community. As a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit, BEST welcomes both recent graduates and long-time alumni to participate in its mission of empowering Black Longhorns and strengthening the legacy of African-American excellence at the University of Texas at Austin.
