Baltimore Black Worker Center

The Baltimore Black Worker Center is a grassroots organization dedicated to advancing economic justice and workplace equity in Baltimore, Maryland. The center focuses on building the collective power of Black workers through strategic organizing, policy advocacy, and community-based solutions. Key service areas include increasing access to quality employment opportunities and living wage jobs, eliminating workplace discrimination, and developing worker-led economic alternatives such as unionization efforts, policy reform initiatives, survival programs, and worker cooperatives. The organization addresses the dual jobs crisis facing Black workers in Baltimore—characterized by high unemployment rates and concentration in low-wage sectors—by providing direct support and organizing infrastructure. Through grassroots issue-based campaigns and solidarity economy initiatives, the center works to redefine the meaning and possibilities of work while advancing systemic change. The Baltimore Black Worker Center recognizes Black workers as strategic agents of transformation capable of disrupting the status quo and creating sustainable, equitable solutions. By organizing with and as Black workers, the center leverages their unique position in the economy to challenge discriminatory practices, build worker power, and develop transformative approaches to economic justice. The organization's comprehensive approach combines direct worker support, community organizing, policy advocacy, and movement building to create meaningful opportunities for Black workers and their families throughout Baltimore.
