Austin Black Physicians Association

The Austin Black Physicians Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Black physicians and improving healthcare equity in Austin, TX and the Greater Austin area. ABPA provides comprehensive support across multiple service areas designed to strengthen the medical profession and address systemic health disparities affecting the African American community.

The organization operates through three primary service pillars. First, ABPA supports medical and premedical student development through scholarships, mentorship programs, and shadowing opportunities. The association administers the Dr. Timothy George Scholarship Program, which provides MCAT preparation course certificates to qualified students from Black, African American, or African descent populations pursuing medical school admission. Second, ABPA forges strategic partnerships with stakeholders throughout Austin and surrounding communities to directly reduce health disparities and improve access to quality healthcare. Third, the association facilitates collaborative engagement initiatives that promote health and wellness for both community members and healthcare providers.

Beyond direct services, ABPA maintains a searchable database of Black physicians in the Greater Austin area, helping community members find culturally competent care. The organization also produces educational content through its Conversations with Black Doctors video series, featuring Black physicians discussing health topics relevant to Black patients. ABPA welcomes physician members interested in mentoring, community outreach, and fundraising efforts. As a mission-driven organization serving Austin since 2016, the Austin Black Physicians Association remains committed to fostering equitable healthcare access and cultivating the next generation of compassionate, culturally conscious Black doctors.
