Association of Black Women Physicians

The Association of Black Women Physicians is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Marina Del Rey, CA, dedicated to advancing public health and welfare through community-focused medical leadership and professional development. Since its establishment in 1982, ABWP has served as a critical resource for African-American women physicians and medical trainees, providing comprehensive support across multiple service areas including community health literacy, public health advocacy, and medical education.

The organization delivers essential services that strengthen the medical profession and underserved communities. ABWP maintains an ongoing forum that supports the success of African-American women in medicine, science, and public health, while creating vital networking and mentorship opportunities for students and trainees. The organization annually distributes scholarships to deserving medical students, directly investing in the pipeline of future Black women physicians. Additionally, ABWP organizes and supports numerous community health and wellness events addressing critical public health issues including COVID-19, RSV, MPOX, and influenza prevention.

Serving the Marina Del Rey area and beyond, ABWP collaborates with individuals and organizations focused on health concerns affecting medically underserved communities and communities of color. The organization's commitment to health equity and inclusion drives partnerships and outreach efforts that enhance both personal and professional quality of life for Black women physicians. Through premier educational programs and collaborative community engagement, ABWP empowers Black women to lead in health and wellness initiatives that create lasting positive impact on society, science, and medicine.
