About Association of Black Psychologists

The Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to advancing African-centered psychology and promoting mental health excellence within communities of African descent. Based in Fort Washington, MD, ABPsi operates as an independent, autonomous professional organization with over 1,400 members committed to scholarly activism and cultural competence. Since its founding in 1968, the organization has pioneered innovative approaches to psychological research, practice, and community intervention that address the unique mental health needs of Black communities and other underserved populations.

ABPsi offers comprehensive professional development and certification programs, including the Certification in African Black Psychology (CABP), which provides expertise in the science of African-centered psychological practice. The organization operates several key initiatives designed to support practitioners and organizations, including school and organizational consultation services that nurture the next generation of mental health professionals. Members benefit from access to the ABPsi Black Wellness Directory, mentoring through the Jegnaship program, and reduced registration fees for the annual national convention.
